I conducted an online survey with one of my volunteer coaching clients. One surprising thing we learned was that members of their parking team mentioned they felt forgotten by church staff.
When my client saw those comments, he immediately took action. He took water and donuts out to the parking team and talked with them for a while. He told me afterwards about their reaction and how they appreciated his simple gesture.
The reason I share this story with you is this…my client wasn’t aware of how his volunteers felt.
He wasn’t intentionally trying to ignore them – he simply had a lot on his plate and didn’t realize the parking team felt like no one knew they were there.
That’s why getting feedback from volunteers is so important.
You probably can’t go to each volunteer on Sunday and get his/her input. However, you can send out an online survey (SurveyMonkey.com is a great tool for this) and hear from your volunteers.

Just remember, the key is to take action on what you learn from your volunteers.
